A new year often prompts desired change: New resolutions, goals, budgets, and even rebranding are among the few changes that companies explore with the start of a new calendar year. At the beginning of 2020, the new decade prompted a product refresh for the Independence Missouri Tourism Division, as they wanted to update their promotional items for visitors. Knowing the recipients would be out-of-town guests, the department was looking for items that could be useful to travelers, while helping them remember their stay.

No one could have ever predicted how leisure and business travel would be impacted in 2020. However, local “staycations” and road trips have increased during the summer of 2020, as tourists are looking for easy and safe getaways, so many items still remain useful and relevant.

Overall comfort, practicality, and fun was key in crafting the right tourist takeaways. Our team knew that weather can always be a surprise factor that dampens a trip, so the team decided one product should be an umbrella, which is functional and unique to receive, especially for those wanting to explore the city. Business travelers need to get their rest, so a travel pillow was another uncommon handout that the client loved. And finally, fun gifts to make guests stay memorable – a deck of cards, customized sunglasses, and packs of gum were a huge hit.

The process allowed our team to collaborate and bring new ideas to the table for a city looking to refresh their image in the new decade. Now, Independence Tourism has fun and unique guest products to continue making visits memorable!
